Our house Frassinelli proseccos, brand new Sicilians and renowned Argiano are just a few of the other gems Alastair helps bring in. Stop by to enjoy some of these favourites with us.

Mums of Crouch End

Wed 25 Nov / 2:30pm

Crouch End / £5 – book online

The third of a series of monthly events, bringing together recent parents for an informal, early-afternoon walk round wine tasting in our shop (2.30pm to 4pm). This month we'll be hosting one of our favourite importers, Beatriz, from whom we source various excellent wines from all over the place (you may have met Beatriz at a recent Saturday afternoon shop tasting). Particularly attractive discounts will be offered on the day. Light food will be provided to nibble on, and spittoons will be provided! Buy your ticket either online or in the shop.

Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe with Daniel Brunier

Tues 12 Nov / 8pm

Crouch End / £30 – book online

We’re ecstatic to be able to organise an event featuring the wines of Daniel Brunier, and even more ecstatic to have the man himself present to showcase the wines. We’ll taste through a range of Brunier wines including Le Pigeoulet, second-label Le Telegramme and of course the prestigious wines of Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe. This is a real treat for all you Chateauneuf-du-Pape fans as we’ll be tasting through the white 2011 and some spectacular reds showing some age (1999, 2005, 2008, 2009).

Billecart-Salmon with James Thomas

Wed 20 Nov / 7:30pm

Crouch End / £40 – book online

The Champagnes of Billecart-Salmon have been a great success at Bottle Apostle, so we’re very pleased to welcome James Thomas from Billecart-Salmon who will guide us through a stunning range of wines. We'll taste just about everything in the UK at the moment, including the Brut Reserve, Extra Brut and Demi-Sec, the stunning Rose, the 1999 Cuvee Nicolas Francois, and perhaps a bonus from library stock. Light food will also be served. Attractive discounts will be offered on the night.

Mums of Crouch End unite!

On Tuesday we had the first of a new series of events in Crouch End, which turned out to be very popular indeed. For two hours in the afternoon the shop became a crèche, with ten mothers and babies packing the shop for an informal tasting of ‘different’ summer wines…and enjoying the air conditioning!

Five wines this time:

Adega de Moncao Vinho Verde 2012 from Portugal. Perfect for the summer, and at 11.5%, lunchtime too. Very fresh, dry, crisp and intensely aromatic. £9.00

Te Whare Ra Toru 2010 from Marlborough in New Zealand. From biodynamically-farmed vineyards, a semi-aromatic off-dry-ish blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer (delicately tamed by the first two). £17.50

Domaene Gobelsburg Rose 2012 from Neiderosterreich, Austria. People are surprised to see a dry, Austrian wine as our house pink, but this has been a huge success for us. Juicy, fresh berry fruit, lively, and dangerously drinkable. £12.50 with 15% off six bottles.

Umore Nero 2011 from Lombardy in Italy. Pinot Noir from a brilliantly dependable producer. Simply excellent Pinot character for the money, very aromatic, good ripeness, and a bit of body. £13.00.

Informal Baga da Vinha Pan 2010 from Beiras, Portugal. Undoubtedly the star of the tasting, Luis Pato’s very dry, pale pink champagne method sparkling wine. Redcurrants, yeast and brioche. We couldn’t be happier with this funkily-packaged crown-capped addition to our list, and later in the year the ever-popular 3B from daughter Filipa will be back in stock! £18.50.

This event is firmly in the diary now – last Wednesday of each month. Upcoming dates include: 28 August / 25 September / 30 October

Thanks to all the mums for making this such a successful inaugural event! We’ll see you again at the end of the month.
