Quinta do Vale Meao truly is a first growth of Portugal, and specifically of the Douro Valley. Xito, the winemaker, runs the property in the beautiful, rugged interor of the Douro with his father and sister. Originally created in 1887 by his great-great-great-great-grandmother, Antonia Adelaide Ferreira, it commands a stunning position comprising 300 hectares of land surrounded by the meandering Douro river. Tonight, Xito will lead us through the second-label Meandro wines, a three-vintage vertical of his main estate red, two of the Monte Meao wines (single variety Touriga Nacional and Baga from specific soils), and the vintage port. Expect not only wines at the pinnacle of the quality Portugal can produce, but some fascinating discussion on the importance of the different soils here (granite, schist, alluvial), and the evidence you will experience in the glass! Some library vintages may be dusted off from the cellar, but even without this evening will be a treat.
As always, particularly attractive discounts will be offered on the night. Light food will be served. Cancellations within a week of the event will be refunded if resold.
